I'm not even that old and it's startling to see the amount of allergies/autoimmune diseases in kids these days when such things were unheard-of when I grew up. The same goes for physical fitness/durability, though culture and lifestyle undoubtedly does play a role with the latter example.
Video games are the problem. I lived out in the bush for 20 years digging out stumps and lopping down trees with an axe. Got a job clearing noxious bushes from a property in town and had no problem digging out the roots which went everywhere. The teenagers who were supposed to be helping were half my age but completely useless. After about a minute they were knackered. Didn't know how to swing a pick or shovel. I couldn't believe it. Take away their mobile phones and kids today are completely lost.

Agree 100% and the phrase ‘I’m old enough to be your father’ as you work circles around them doesn’t even embarrass them anymore!
